They didn’t shut down their server. They were the victims of a DDoS or Direct-Denial of Service attack. This is when a person or group of persons uses multiple servers or bot computers (computers seized for uses from virus’ in downloads) to try to overwhelm the servers by logging on in mass amounts. Membean took their servers down so that the DDoS will not work, if the DDoS succeeded, there would be a much longer time that the servers are down
